Guard of the Plains Sculpture

James Johnson's 1970 abstract sculpture is located on a hilltop near the I-70 eastbound rest area, mile marker 336. To reach it, visitors must start at the westbound rest area and walk a narrow, somewhat steep quarter-mile wooded trail. The climb is worthwhile for those who make the trek.
